T/F 2019 Barrier. Co Created by Daniel Heggarty, Joseph Fischer, and Mark Steck.

Physical barriers, walls, and fences are constructed intentionally to separate, segregate, and divide. They are boundaries that are not to be transgressed for fear of consequence. Unintentionally we construct our own mental obstructions out of ignorance, inexperience, and lack of understanding that can hinder our own growth and development. We do not always know what is on the other side of a barrier, wall, or fence. This piece shows that barriers, walls, fences have reciprocal sides. Passing through new barriers, breaking walls, and ignoring fences will shed new light on perspectives of the other side and gracefully display the fluidity that we can pass from one side to the other as we swing back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

T/F 2018: Gryo Kinetic House. Co Created by Daniel Heggarty, Joseph Fischer, and Mark Steck.

Weather affects everyone and everything in our daily lives. Unfortunately, often times our concept of ‘home’ and the sanctuary of it is disrupted. The idea of “home” is one that anyone can identify with. A home is a place of comfort, stability, and safety. This installation is built using weatherized steal to show the result of water and oxidation on materials. Inside of the steal structure is a tiny house suspended, which can spin in any direction because of the three axis of motion. The house itself has a recognizable facia but then implodes/explodes on the converse side. This piece speaks to the effects of increasingly unpredictable and severe weather on the traditional concept of “home”. The sporadic movements of the kinetic piece and gyrating home within represent the unpredictability of our current weather patterns and how they can potentially effect anyone’s home at any time.
